Festival on Month of Romanian Photography holds 1st edition
Bucharest, Jan 4, 2010 /Romaniapress/ - The Romanian Photographer Artists Association (RPAA) is organising the first national edition of a Festival called The Month of the Romanian Photography to begin in Oradea (northwest of the capital) on Monday, Jan. 4.
'We have planned to organise the Month of Romanian Photography every year, since it is linked to the anniversary of the Day of the Romanian Photographic Art on January 11, when the most representative photographer-painter of Romania and the first war news photographer in the world, Carol Popp de Szatmary was born', said RPAA president Stefan Toth, who initiated the event.
The festival is sponsored by the Romanian Ministry of Culture, Religious Affairs and Heritage and the Romanian Cultural Institute based in Budapest and it schedules several exceptional exhibitions to be opened both in Bucharest and in the most important centres of photographic art in Romania (Arad, Botosani, Craiova, Iasi, Odorheiul Secuiesc, Oradea, Marghita, Ploiesti, Ramnicu-Valcea, Slatina and Targu-Mures) as well as in the Hungarian capital of Budapest.
Besides dozens of exhibitions to display pictures taken by individual photographers and by photo-clubs, several National Photographic Art Shows will open in the Month of the Photography such as The Photographer of the Year, the Photo-Clubs Cup and the Seniors' Show. All these events are a national first.
The RPAA together with Oradea-based Euro Photo Art Association will stage the 4th edition of the International Show of All the Romanian and Hungarian Photographers Everywhere over Jan. 15-22, as part of the Romanian Culture Week (Jan. 15) and the Hungarian Culture Week (Jan. 22). The Show will be simultaneously opened in Oradea (at the Euro Photo Art Gallery), Budapest (at the Romanian Cultural Institute), Bucharest (At Hungary's Cultural Centre) and in Cluj-Napoca (at the Central University Library).
The first edition of the National Photo-Clubs Cup Show will be opened as part of the official launch of the first edition of the Month of the Romanian Photography on Monday; 12 RPAA partner photo-clubs display unitary collections of pictures. The international judges including such renowned photographers as Georg S. Holzmann Hon E.FIAP (Germany), Marcello Materassi E.FIAP (Italia) and Viorel Simionescu E.FIAP (Canada) will offer the Photo-Clubs Cup, medals and diplomas.
