Alexia Foundation Photojournalism Student Grants

January 17, 2011 /Photography News/ The Alexia Foundation offers help to provide the financial ability for students to improve their knowledge and skills of photojournalism and to increase their own knowledge and understanding of other cultures by providing scholarships to study photojournalism at Syracuse University in London, England.
The Foundation also provides cash grants to enable student photographers to have the financial ability to produce a picture story that furthers the Foundation's goals of promoting world peace and cultural understanding.
Awards for students who will be full-time undergrads in Fall 2011:
First Place Award: A full-tuition scholarship (about $15,300) to study photojournalism in London in the fall semester through Syracuse University Abroad; a grant of $1,000 for completing the proposed picture story. An additional $500 will be awarded to the sponsoring academic department.
Second Place Award: A half-tuition scholarship (about $7,650) toward tuition, fees and living expenses to study photojournalism in London this Fall through Syracuse University Abroad; a grant of $500 for completing the proposed picture story.
Awards of Excellence: Three awards of excellence receive $1,600 toward tuition, to study photojournalism in London this Fall through Syracuse University Abroad, and cash grants of $500 for completing the proposed picture stories.
Dury's Award: Each student winner will receive a gift card from Dury's Photo for equipment and supplies from the store in these amounts:

Awards for graduate students or students who will graduate before Fall 2011:
Graduates take only two courses in London. The courses are required of all photo students and count as graduate credit and will transfer to most university photo programs.
First Place Award: An $8,000 scholarship to study photojournalism in London in the fall semester through Syracuse University Abroad; a grant of $1,000 for completing the proposed picture story. An additional $500 will be awarded to the sponsoring academic department. Tuition for the two courses is approximately $6,000. The additional $2,000 will cover partial payment for the program fee.
Second Place Award: A full-tuition scholarship ($6,000) to take two graduate courses in London this Fall through Syracuse University Abroad; a grant of $500 for completing the proposed picture story.
Awards of Excellence: Three scholarships of $1,600 toward tuition, fees and living expenses to study photojournalism in London this Fall through Syracuse University Abroad, and three grants of $500 for completing the proposed picture stories.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be duly enrolled full-time students in an accredited college or university in the U.S. or abroad in a degree program at the time of application. Graduate and undergraduate students are eligible. No student who has completed more than three internships or a year of fulltime professional experience is eligible.

Applications must be received by 5 p.m. EST, February 1, 2011.
