February 11, 2011 /Photography News/ British photographer Giles Duley was gravely wounded this week, the New York Times reported.
Duley, 39, lost one leg below the knee, one leg above the knee and his left arm was severed above the elbow after stepping on a makeshift bomb in the Kandahar Province of Afghanistan.
The incident occurred February 7 while Duley was on a foot patrol with a US Army unit. He had been in Afghanistan less than two weeks when he was wounded, and was covering military operations for the first time.
Duley spent 10 years as an editorial photographer in the fashion and music industries before focusing on humanitarian projects.
Last year he won honours in the Prix de la Photographie Paris competition.
Giles Duley is the second photographer to suffer multiple amputations while covering the military campaign in Kandahar since last fall.

Duley is second one since last fall....and how many more before? Joao Silva for sure, Emilio Morenati too, how many more? How many local photographers and ordinary people don't make it to the news?
