The White House Photo That Sparks Protest
August 11, 2011 /Photography News/ A photograph of President Barack Obama participating on August 9 in a ceremony at Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Del., for the dignified transfer of U.S. and Afghan personnel who died in Afghanistan on August 6, was widely distributed despite the Pentagon's claim that any public depiction of the scene would violate the wishes of bereaved families. In addition, the Pentagon rejected media requests to take photos that showed officials at the ceremony but did not depict caskets.

As photo Editor I can't see any problem to spread this picture. No coffins/caskets on the image. The point of the pictures is the Mr. Obama on respectful salute with the hand to the brave soldiers.

The Pentagon's call was spotty at best, they wouldnt allow any caskets being photographed because they held unidentified remains, and a small percentage of the families denied coverage (according to AP). It was Obama who made the rules in the first place after Bush and co. forbid any coverage of the coffin returns.
And what protest did it spark? Because if it was just a Fox News story, they protested when Obama had a birthday party.
John Fulton says
I'm stunned this is THE picture that the "protest" is over. Please. This picture is so inoffensive as to almost not be a very good photograph. BTW, not all the families objected to media coverage. Only some. This entire "protest" detracts from the solemn and serious event that took place.

The rest of the press are just pissed because they basically weren't able to get anything.
